Coastal Watch is an exhibition by established Sydney artists Peter Griffen & Denise Lithgow featuring vibrant abstract responses to coastal landscapes through painting & felt sculpture.

Peter Griffen has been painting full time for over 40 years, during which time he has travelled extensively and has had numerous exhibitions in Australia, UK, France and New Zealand. Peter’s work has a playful dynamic quality with a strong use of colour that comes from painting directly from both the interior and coastal landscapes of Australia. Curve Gallery will be exhibiting Peter’s current  series of diptych works that show 2 different responses to the landscape in his richly coloured expressive style.

Peter Griffen’s work is held in many private, corporate and public collections. He has been selected as a finalist in several prizes including the Blake, Sulman, Dobell, Fishers Ghost, Fleurieu and was the winner of the Muswellbrook Prize in 2011.

Denise Lithgow is a textile artist with a love of wool. Large felted sculpture vessels feature in this exhibition, with motifs inspired by the textures, form and patterns found on beaches, estuaries and other coastal locations. Denise recently had a solo exhibition at the Muswellbrook Regional Art Centre and four of her pieces are now in their permanent collection.

Denise won the Hornsby Sculpture Art Prize in 2014 and has been the finalist in many prizes including Outback Open Art Prize Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery, Hunters Hill Art Prize, Wangaratta Art Gallery Petite Miniature Textiles, NSW Parliament House ATASDA and others including winning prizes at National Textile Art Festival Brisbane Art to Wear, Royal Sydney Arts and Crafts, and Tumut Art Society Fire Art.
