THE DAIS series reflects on the social interaction of youth at the Newcastle Ocean Baths and plays homage to this  iconic ‘watermark’ steeped in local mythology.  Jane was inspired by The Dais in the Baths being a rite of passage for teenagers to pose, preen and  skylark  with each other.  The domain of fresh limbering youth!

Hunter based artist, Jane Lander has an established practice of painting, drawing and printmaking spanning more than three decades. For the first time we will see Lander’s amazing immediate charcoal drawings, animated. Lander has embraced the opportunity for a solo exhibition with Curve GALLERY and is delighted to be their first exhibition in the new space on Hunter Street. THE DAIS series was completed from last October to May this year, observing  the theatre of teenagers pushing, pulling and jumping: squeezed onto this moving ‘stage’.
