Gavin Vitullo

Gavin Vitullo is most recognised for his work in sculpture and was the winner of the Newcastle Emerging Artist Prize for sculpture in both 2013 & 2014. He was also the inaugural Newcastle Lord Mayors Public Sculpture winner in 2013 for his work ‘Undercurrent’ and has been a finalist in the prestigious Gosford Art Prize for the last 3 years running for his work in both printmaking and sculpture, testifying to his exploration across many disciplines.
Vitullo’s current  body of work has evolved over the past 5 years, both a challenging and rewarding time for the artist who has worked through grief, multiple surgeries and constant interruptions along the way, that have influenced & inspired his path. Forms that are scarred by evocative textural surfaces, prompt the viewer to consider more than the form alone.
Playing with scale, Mastering Mortality will feature both monumental & intimate contemplative sculptures full of symbolic meaning, executed in various mediums including stone, Australian timbers and concrete.
