Marlene Houston

Marlene Houston lives and works in Newcastle, as a small child in the mid 1960’s she  was raised in a remote outback town of Western Australia. This experience continues to impact her artistic practice today and the Humanity Series reflects on the plight of people living in detention centres in remote parts of Australia. The harsh environmental and cultural conditions of these areas is sensitively rendered in this series of sculpture, born out of her intimate understanding of the harsh conditions in these remote and isolated locations.
